The New York Claim Association is proud to honor two outstanding leaders whose accomplishments and integrity exemplify excellence in the insurance and legal professions. This year’s honorees, Megan Watt and Thomas J. Maroney, have made significant contributions to advancing claims management, legal advocacy, and professional leadership within the industry.
Megan Watt
Chief Claims Officer, AXIS Capital
Megan Watt is the Chief Claims Officer at AXIS Capital, overseeing insurance and reinsurance claims for the company. She has held senior claims leadership roles at AIG, Everest Insurance, and Chubb. Earlier in her career, she practiced law focusing on insurance coverage. Megan earned her law degree from New York Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College.
Thomas J. Maroney
Founding Partner, Maroney & O’Connor, LLP
Thomas J. Maroney is a founding partner of Maroney & O’Connor, LLP, based in lower Manhattan. He holds a law degree from St. John’s University School of Law and earned his undergraduate degree from Siena College. Since his admission to the bar in 1981, Mr. Maroney has been recognized among New York Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, and the Irish Legal 100.
Mr. Maroney’s practice spans product liability, general and premises liability, construction, and personal injury defense. He has served as National Coordinating Defense Counsel for cases involving foreign manufacturers and regularly defends general contractors and New York employers in complex litigation matters.
Beyond his practice, Mr. Maroney is active in legal and professional associations. He serves on the Executive Committee and House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association, has chaired its Torts, Insurance & Compensation Law Section, and is a past President of the Defense Association of New York (DANY). He is also a board member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and has chaired its Insurance Roundtable and ADR Committee.
